Aileen Rizo tells Pay Equity Story: Advancing Pay Equity: How Women Can Be Paid More

Aileen Rizo, featured in the August 2018 issue of Harper’s Bazaar, told the tale of her journey from mathematics education instructor to litigant – to Ph.D. candidate and the world of California politics. Otr IVC sponsored her appearance Sept. 22, 2018, in Oakland.

In 2012, Rizo began a fight for pay equity becoming an advocate for the economic security of women in our state, working with legislators and advocates to pass some of the strongest pay equity bills in the nation. Her landmark case decision issued in April 2018 set precedence in the use of prior wages to justify a pay discrepancy. The result of her case will directly release women, especially women of color, from low wages that have been a burden for decades and provides an avenue of equality for all. Her case was supported by the AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund. Support similar cases by making a donation to the AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund.
