Aileen Rizo to tell Pay Equity Story: Advancing Pay Equity: How Women Can Be Paid More
Aileen Rizo, featured in the August 2018 issue of Harper’s Bazaar, will be telling the tale of her journey from mathematics education instructor to litigant – to Ph.D. candidate and the world of California politics. Make your reservation now to hear her, Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018, 4 – 6 PM at the Robert Trudeau Conference Center, 11500 Skyline Blvd, Oakland, CA 94619. (RESERVE THROUGH EVENTBRITE – it’s free; there is limited seating).
In 2012, Rizo began a fight for pay equity becoming an advocate for the economic security of women in our state, working with legislators and advocates to pass some of the strongest pay equity bills in the nation. Her landmark case decision issued in April 2018 set precedence in the use of prior wages to justify a pay discrepancy. The result of her case will directly release women, especially women of color, from low wages that have been a burden for decades and provides an avenue of equality for all. Her case was supported by the AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund. Support similar cases by making a donation to the AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund.

Tips for Change Fundraiser – Hayward-Castro Valley
Annually the branch raises funds supporting Tech Trek through an evening of dining at Giannini’s in San Ramon. Members wait on tables and tips earned go to Tech Trek. Generous tipping is encouraged. The next event is scheduled for Aug. 20. Here’s info from their 2017 event with updated date – expect a repeat.
SAVE THE DATE! MONDAY, AUGUST 20th FUND RAISING DINNER FOR TECH TREK AT GIANNI’S, SAN RAMON
Our largest Fundraiser for Tech Trek girls is our dinner at Tips for Change at Gianni’s in San Ramon. Each year [one of our members} makes a large assortment of baskets which she raffles off to the customers as they enjoy their wonderful dinner. She has been purchasing many of the items she puts in the baskets on her own. She needs all of us to step up to the plate and either send her money so she can purchase the items or bring items to her home. These baskets made us about $800 in the past and that nearly pays for one camper on its own. Please take it upon yourself to get involved in this fundraiser by going to the dinner with your family or providing items for the baskets (or both).
Raising Awareness About…Mental Health
